Sarahsetter Puppies

The puppies at Sarahsetter Kennels are quite unique. Sarahsetter has several generations that have been hand selected for their natural bird dog abilities. All puppies go through training from the early age of six weeks. The puppies learn their names, to come when called, to get into a kennel crate on command, to get onto a place board and to walk on a leash.

At seven weeks the litters are taken to the woods and introduced to quail. The place board is used as an introduction to “whoa” and as a place to come back to when learning to retrieve birds. At nine weeks the puppies start to point birds in piney woods. They learn to use their nose and the wind to their advantage. At approximately ten weeks old, puppies will start backing their littermates.

Sarahsetter puppies are called “super puppies” because they are ready to hunt when they leave. Litters are introduced to a blank gun at eleven to twelve weeks old. We offer an extra month of training between three and four months old to get them absolutely ready for the field. This extra month gives the puppies the opportunity to become experienced bird dogs. After the proper introduction of the gun to the young puppy, we will shoot first a 410 and later a 20 gauge shotgun over the puppy to give him ample opportunity to retrieve.

The purchase of a Sarahsetter Super Puppy is the best money one can spend.
