Private LessonsPrivate Lessons at Sarahsetter include many options for the dog and his/her owner(s). We offer positive reinforcement using clicker training and we also use negative reinforcement techniques. The first session will mainly be about assessing your dog's behavior and any problems that you might be having with your dog. Mark will generally ask your dog to "down" to see if he/she has respect for human commands. Mark will assess how many sessions your dog might need in order to become the companion that you enjoy. Clicker training is a great, fun way to teach your dog commands. We train all of the puppies at Sarahsetter with clicker training from six weeks to twelve weeks of age. We have the experience needed to guide you in training your dog to his full potential. Negative reinforcement is used when your dog has gotton to the "teenage years", has started ignoring/not respecting your commands or needs to be reliable for whatever reason. We use the electronic training collar (Tri-Tronics Pro 100). This collar is made for negative reinforcement, NOT PUNISHMENT. Negative reinforcement is "bothering" to the dog just as your seat belt buzzer is to you. By complying with the command, the dog turns the collar off. This form of training actually teaches your dog to learn. Please see the article Mark wrote "Do you Know Your Collar?" to give you a better understanding of how and why the electronic collar works. |
